ABOUT THE ARTIST
Susan Powell (b. 1986) holds a B.Mus. in Church Music from St. Olaf College, where she studied organ with Dr. John Ferguson and composition with Dr. Timothy Mahr, and a P.D.S.P in organ from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. From 2019-2021 she was an associate instructor of music theory at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, while pursuing graduate studies in organ performance and choral conducting.
As a composer, she is passionate about writing artistically robust works accessible to amateur and developing musicians. As a church musician, she has an interest in theology, liturgy, and hymnology. A broad range of experience across denominations and worship traditions informs her ecumenical perspective.
She lives in Indianapolis, Indiana with her husband Mike and their four children, Jacob, Meredith, Joshua, and Maya. She currently serves as the Precentor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and is also active as a composer and free-lance event keyboardist and recording session singer.
