Sing with Bethlehem Lutheran Church Choir for our 2026 choral project!

Our second hymn festival with director Susan Powell is an opportunity for anyone who loves choral singing. We are an SATB ensemble, fluctuating
on a typical Sunday between 7 and 15 voices in our beloved choir loft in the heart of the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood of Indianapolis. Occasionally, we also put together larger choral works, often growing to 18-24 voices.
Our first hymn festival, "O Love of God," was presented twice in March 2025 and included a handful of our friends. You can listen to it on our YouTube channel. Our second hymn festival is scheduled for November 2026, and we'd like to grow from 24 voices to about 40, making this a community event that's bigger than our own little neighborhood church. Would you join us?
The repertoire includes everything from simple hymn settings to a motet for double chorus, with a range of choral styles from Johann Sebastian Bach to Iona Community hymn writer John Bell. A hymn festival is a beautiful hybrid—somewhere between a worship service and a choral concert, with audiences drawn in to share in singing hymns both beloved and unfamiliar.
Our average member has several years of choral experience and can read music pretty fluently, but we love including folks who are just getting started, or who've always wished to be in choir. Rehearsal recordings and learning tracks are posted on YouTube for singers who want more practice. And you can rest assured you'll be singing next to someone who knows what's up.
